Blog 11 patterns of error

My first pattern of error would be being too repetitive, especially in a lengthy paper I tend to use the same words over again just to make it seem longer but I have cut down on that am working hard to become a better writer.
My second pattern of error would be having trouble analyzing a topic of interest, I have a tough time writing very long essays mostly because I do have trouble in that certain area.
My third would be having trouble writing a strong thesis, I think during that part of the paper I think too much and just try to make it seem perfect when I really should just be straightforward with it.

Extra credit blog "Do athletes bear the responsibility of a role model?"

My topic here will be whether athletes should be considered role models for young children and of course the answer will be yes, without a doubt athletes are role models for everyone really not just young children. Athletes are the best possible role model for a young child because they want to be just like them, the way they move, hustle, go about their business, play the game, and speak. This is a good sign for parents because athletes worked hard to get to the point of where they are now, they had to study, practice, and stay focused on what they want to do. Parents know that and they want their child to do the same, they want to show them an example of someone who has worked hard and achieved their goal hoping their child will do the same. A great example of a role model here in Chicago would be Derrick Rose of the bulls, he plays the game hard, supports his teammates, and does whatever it takes to win. He doesn't have a big ego like other athletes, he lets his game do all the talking and an MVP award shows just how much work he puts in day in and day out. Another example would be NFL quarterback Tim Tebow who everyone seems to adore because he is a Christian and follows all beliefs of the bible and that is the type of player parents want their kids looking up to. Many athletes have had an impact on many lives, one player who I looked up to as a child was cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez who now plays for the Milwaukee Brewers but was with the cubs for about 8 and a half years, I started watching him in 2003 when the cubs had a great season, I saw the way he played the game, supported his teammates, never bad mouthed anyone, and played hard everyday, that had an impact on me because I wanted to play just like him. Athletes play a bigger role in a persons life than they even think,  many look up to them and will emulate their every move.

Blog 10

The way I approached my search was going with broader terms and then narrowing them. My focus was on technology and how it has affected our lives, after using different terms such as "Negative effects" and "young generation" I wanted to go with how it has had an effect on communication skills but even that seemed a bit too broad. So I decided to search "cell phones" and "Text messaging" there I would find my research topic "The negative effects of text messaging on teen literacy" this is much narrower and is focusing on one topic that we can all understand. My thesis will continue to develop but so far I have come up with this "With many teens now owning a cell phone and constantly texting misspelled words, the way they speak and text is now crossing over to the real world in which that text does not exist. It is affecting the way they write, spell, and speak, if this continues, many students grades will suffer" I hope to continue to work on my thesis by narrowing it down and using more examples of what affect this has on teen literacy.

Blog 9 "College Experience"

So far my college experience has been good, I got a chance to meet new people, learn new things, and know what its like to be a college student. I really enjoy the lecture classes because I can easily find interest in the class and the topic and that just makes it a whole lot easier. I can easily do the work that is assigned if I am really interested in the class and what we are learning. I hate the math classes so far because its mostly just taking notes, asking questions, doing a bunch of homework, and a test every week, it just feels like I am running a marathon and there is never a break in the class. Its nonstop work and that is what I really don't like about it. What I enjoyed most so far is the freedom, the freedom to pick our classes and the time we can attend them, the days we attend and the days we would rather have off. Having the freedom to choose your own schedule is great for everyone because then we can have time to ourselves so we can work and maybe once in a while just have an off day with a couple of friends. What I least enjoy about college is probably the nonstop work that is handed to us, although I do understand that this is college and that is why I wont complain much about this. So far I have enjoyed my college experience I have learned many new things and have met many new people, I look forward to learning more and taking on the challenges that await me.

Blog 6

From the articles that we have read in class, I feel that a lot of people are indeed going to college, its not for everyone and a lot of students may end up dropping out and still owing a bunch of money to the school. Some people are just better off going to a trade school for a couple of years and then excel at a profession of their choice. College is not easy and in the end you will still end up owing a bunch of money so I do believe that way too many people are under the impression that going to college and earning a degree will equal success. I really don't like the fact that many young people all choose to go to college because it was engraved in their head that going to college will make them successful in the future, that is not true in many cases, especially in the time that were in right now where many people with degrees are unemployed and are still looking for their dream job. The value of a degree is dropping, but that shouldn't stop anyone from following their dream.

Blog 7 "Reflection"

Looking back to my first blog post, I would say that not much about my writing has changed, I haven't learned many new skills, I've just done a bunch of blogs that I personally do not think are very relevant to the class. The blogs are not teaching me new writing techniques and a bunch of essays aren't going to do much for me if I don't have a real professional grading my rough drafts instead of my colleagues. I don't feel that there has been much change to my writing style since the beginning of the semester. Hopefully in the next eight weeks I can learn how to become a better writer. I felt the summarizing and synthesizing assignment was a bit odd and new to me, but hopefully I will learn something from it that I can use in the near future. One thing that I would like to see in this class is a lecture once in a while to talk about how we can become better writers and maybe some tips that we can use while writing an essay. I am looking forward to the next eight weeks of class because I do want to become a better writer and I'm hoping this class can help get me there.

More practice summarizing

One belief that I have seen a lot lately is not hitting a child no matter how much trouble they are causing. Apparently parents now a days don't believe in discipline. I see it and hear it, I see a child misbehaving and the parent refuses to spank them, then everyone wonders why kids are running around out of control. I disagree with this belief because I do believe that a child should be disciplined when he or she is misbehaving, if they are not, then they will do whatever they want. Growing up I would always be disciplined every time I misbehaved, it taught me to think before I act and taught me to be responsible. I believe a child should be disciplined but to a certain extent, there has to be a balance between love, discipline and rewarding the child for their act of kindness.
